Message from the President

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share that Gary P. Sibeck, professor emeritus of marketing and business law, passed away on March 27, 2024. He was 94 years old.

Professor Sibeck joined Loyola University in 1965 as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 1971 and full professor in 1977. After 53 years at LMU, he retired in August 2018.

During his impactful career spanning five decades, Professor Sibeck, known for his rigorous classes and care for his students’ well-being and success, helped set the standards for undergraduate business programs. He was a renowned legal scholar and served as associate dean of the College of Business Administration for 20 years. Professor Sibeck also chaired Marketing and Business Law for ten years, with expertise in Latin America and international marketing.

Prior to LMU, Professor Sibeck taught at Western New Mexico University and practiced law in Oklahoma City for three years. He was a member of several professional organizations, including the Oklahoma Bar, the United States Court of International Trade, the American and Pacific/Southwest Business Law Associations, and the Business Association of Latin American Studies.

Professor Sibeck earned his Ph.D. at USC and his J.D., M.A., and B.A. at the University of Oklahoma.

Professor Sibeck’s family is holding private services in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Professor Sibeck’s honor.
