Melanie C. Austin-Thomas

Message from the President

Sept. 8, 2016

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share with you that Melanie C. Austin-Thomas, a student in our School of Education, passed away Aug. 25 from a long-term kidney illness. She was 46 years old.

Despite her health challenges, Melanie earned her B.A. in American literature and culture from UCLA in 2010. She was an LMU master’s degree candidate in elementary education and was working on her teaching credential.

Melanie will be remembered by our community with a plaque bearing her name at our student memorial, Ad Astra per Aspera. Please keep Melanie, her husband, Bradley, and her son, Phyllip Williams, her extended family, and her many friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D.
President
