Message from the President
May 26, 2016

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to inform you that William S.K. “Scott” Cameron, a philosophy professor at LMU since 1994, died yesterday after a long struggle with cancer. He was 54 years old.

Scott was director of LMU's Ethics Minor Program from 2004 to the present and was on the advisory board for the Environmental Studies Program. His academic expertise, applying hermeneutical tools to environmental philosophy, led him to organize the 2006 Bellarmine Forum, “Environmental Responsibility.” He was a founding member of the International Association for Environmental Philosophy, which has become a major academic organization. Scott also was the faculty adviser to the Philosophy Department’s student club, the Philosophy Society.

Scott was born in Northern Ontario, Canada, and earned his B.A. and M.A. in philosophy at Queen’s University, Kingston. He earned his Ph.D. at Fordham University. Scott came to LMU as a visiting professor in 1994 and became tenure-track the next year. He was eventually promoted to the rank of professor in 2009.

Memorial services are pending. Further details will be posted in MYLMU when they become available.

Scott was a valued member of our community and a devoted Mennonite with a special commitment to the promotion of peace. Please keep him, his wife, Margie, and their children, Madeleine, Liam, Audrey, and Luke in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D.
President
