Pre-Return COVID-19 Testing for Students

Pre-Return COVID-19 Testing for Students

With ongoing COVID-19 transmission in our communities, LMU asks all students to get tested and obtain a negative result before returning to any LMU campus for the fall semester. Students must submit their negative test or attestation here. You may take a PCR test up to two days prior to your return, or a rapid antigen test (including at-home tests) within one day of your return. (Note: If you tested positive in the last 90 days, use an antigen test only.) Students who have already returned to campus may take their test up to two days prior to the start of fall classes.

You can find information about testing centers in L.A. County here. COVID-19 testing may also be obtained at pharmacies, through your primary care physician, urgent care centers, and community COVID-19 testing sites.

To help ensure the safety of our community, the university also asks faculty and staff to receive a negative test before the start of the school year.

If you test positive, isolate and do not travel. If you are feeling sick, stay home and get tested regardless of your vaccination status (you can find additional tips on the LMU Together website in the A-Z Index.) Resident students should contact the Student Housing Office (housing@lmu.edu) to reschedule their housing move-in date. Students should notify their faculty members directly if they are unable to attend class because they are in isolation.

Masks Required in Classes, Meetings, Events, and Gatherings

Individuals are required to wear masks during indoor class instruction, regardless of the number of people in the room, as well as during indoor meetings, events, and gatherings with 10 or more people. If you are serving food at a meeting, event or gathering, consider moving it outdoors or utilizing a larger space indoors with doors and windows open to facilitate ventilation. For assistance with your event, please contact your dedicated event manager or scheduling@lmu.edu. Masks are not required outdoors.

LMU continues to provide N95 and surgical masks free of charge:

  • Faculty and staff on the Westchester Campus may request an N95 or surgical mask from Environmental Health and Safety online.
  • Students, faculty, staff, and visitors on the Westchester Campus may obtain surgical masks in Malone, VDA, University Hall, Campus Safety, Burns Rec Center, and the William H. Hannon Library.
  • LMU resident students may obtain surgical masks in their residence halls.
  • LLS students, faculty, and staff may obtain masks at the Information Center.

COVID Vaccine and Booster Required

LMU requires that eligible community members provide proof that they have received their COVID-19 vaccine and at least one COVID-19 booster, unless they have a medical or religious exemption. Those who have already received a vaccine exemption do not need to request an additional exemption for the booster. As a reminder, you are eligible for your booster 6 months after you have received two doses of Pfizer, Moderna, or WHO approved two-dose COVID-19 vaccines or 2 months after you have received the single Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Upload your vaccine and booster information in Vax LMU using your phone or tablet (learn how to access your COVID-19 vaccine records) as soon as possible and prior to your arrival on campus. You can find a booster site near you at vaccines.gov. For questions, students should contact deanofstudents@lmu.edu and faculty and staff should contact hr@lmu.edu

As a reminder, those who have a religious or medical exemption, or are not yet eligible to be fully vaccinated and boosted, are required to test weekly at the on-campus vaccination center.

Free On-Campus COVID Testing at LMU COVID Testing Center

LMU continues to offer free COVID testing to all students, faculty, staff, and contractors. Advance appointments are no longer required. Simply submit a one-time registration in the university’s new portal, receive a personalized QR code, and show the QR code when you walk up to the testing window. Your QR code is valid for all future testing. Further information can be found at the LMU COVID-19 Testing Center webpage.

Changes to Exposure Notification

As a reminder, on May 13, LMU changed the university’s exposure notification protocol to align with exposure management policies issued by the California Department of Public Health and L.A. County Public Health. In a classroom, office, conference room or similar size space with a capacity of 30 people, every individual in the space is considered a close contact. In larger spaces, close contacts are defined as only those within 6 feet of the infected individual.
