Anthony Sabatino

Message from the President

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share with you that Anthony “Tony” Sabatino, clinical associate professor of educational leadership and director of Catholic School Leadership Programs, died unexpectedly on May 22, 2017. He was 66 years old.

Associate Professor Sabatino joined LMU in 2010. He taught mission-based leadership, courses in organizational management of diversity, and leadership responses to diversity among students, families, staff, and community. His scholarship and leadership have benefited Catholic educators in the Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino dioceses. He was also involved in national professional organizations, including serving as a member and chair of the American Educational Research Association Catholic Education Special Interest Group, a member of the National Catholic Educational Association's Leadership Development Advisory Council, and a member of the Catholic Higher Education in Support of Catholic Schools. 

Associate Professor Sabatino had a distinguished career in Catholic school administration, including eight years as headmaster of Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai, California; 11 years as assistant principal and interim principal of St. Augustine High School in San Diego; and terms as principal of several Catholic elementary schools and public high schools in California and Illinois.  

Associate Professor Sabatino became an affiliate of the Order of St. Augustine in May 2009, serving the educational mission of the Western Province of the Order of St. Augustine. 

He earned his Ed.D. at Cal Lutheran University, his master’s degree in educational administration at Northern Illinois University, and his B.S. in education, also at Northern Illinois.

Funeral arrangements will be announced when they are available.
