Dear LMU Community:
I am saddened to share with you that George Dasaro, professor of accounting, died on Feb. 18, 2017, after a long illness at his home in Westchester. He was 75 years old.
As a teacher and as a faculty member, Professor Dasaro was deeply involved in the life of the university for almost 40 years. He mentored his students with impact: Generations of LMU graduates landed jobs with Big Eight accounting firms because of his guidance and recommendations. He was voted the Accounting Society's Professor of the Year multiple times, including in 2016. Professor Dasaro was a member of the Faculty Hall of Fame Committee and the Accounting Department Advisory Committee; he moderated the Accounting Society; and he served as department budget manager. He also helped develop the Faculty Housing Program, and he participated actively on search committees and a CBA accreditation subcommittee.
Professor Dasaro, a 1963 alumnus of Loyola University, joined the LMU accounting faculty in 1977, was promoted to associate professor in 1982, and became a professor in 1987. He earned his master’s degree in accounting at Cal State L.A. in 1966, and his B.A. in accounting at Loyola University in 1963. He was a CPA, held a certificate in fraud examination, and belonged to the American Accounting Association, the California Society of CPAs, and the Association of Fraud Examiners.
A celebration of Professor Dasaro’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, in Sacred Heart Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Professor Dasaro’s honor to: Professor George A. Dasaro Endowed Fund in Accounting, c/o Alma Vorst, 1 LMU Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
