Nestor Pereira

Message from the President
June 27, 2023

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share that Nestor Pereira ’78, manager of programming and facilities, passed away from cancer on June 24, 2023. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Pereira joined LMU in June 1995, and as the manager of programming and facilities for Murphy Recital Hall, the university’s premier music venue, he was vital to the educational training of our students in the Department of Music. Mr. Pereira was an essential team member in LMU College of Communication and Fine Arts and led the daily operations and maintenance of the hall, including scheduling, event logistics, and the management of student workers. He adeptly coordinated senior recitals, faculty performances, visiting soloists, chamber ensembles, and a range of public events.

Mr. Pereira’s time on the bluff began as a student in 1973, after which he quickly embedded himself into the fabric of LMU Radio’s KXLU 88.9FM. During his five decades with the radio station, he held various volunteer leadership positions, including program director, fine arts director, and on-air host of several music programs. Mr. Pereira’s longest stint was as host of “The Early Evening Concert,” a primarily classical mix, which he presented with passion. His last show was June 5.

An LMU alum, Mr. Pereira earned a B.A. in Latin American Studies and a B.A. in Spanish. He was also a proud graduate of Loyola High School.

Plans to celebrate Mr. Pereira’s career and life by the CFA Dean’s Office are pending and will be shared soon.

Please keep Nestor, his family, colleagues, and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D.
President
